In an effort to both produce an economical solution for the
an existing 800 square foot log cabin in Jackson, Wyoming. Perched atop a
butte high above the town of Jackson, the site offers two incredible
mountain vistas. The clients wanted to keep the existing do it yourself
cabin while adding a contemporary addition. The modern addition contains an entry foyer, two bedrooms and a bath and is situated in such a way that a new entry is created at the joint between the old and new. Materials are
used on the interior of the addition and existing structure to allow for
natural light to bleed between rooms, using translucency to expand the tight spaces.
clients with new twins, a child under 2, and 2 dogs, yet expand their living
space to take advantage of the majestic view offered by the site, the roof
of the addition is conceived as an outdoor extension of the upper level
kitchen, dining, and living spaces. This effectively adds 500 additional
square feet of recreational space to the project without extending the
budget beyond their means. More importantly it allows the family to take
full advantage of the differing levels of incredible landscape and views,
transforming the house into veritable tree house for living.
