Rose Guest House

Project Type : Residential

Location : Wilson, WY

Project Size : 1,000 sf

Date : 2009

The two main driving forces in the design work to at once minimize thefootprint of the building as well as to take advantage of the unique
characteristics of this site. The result is a modest two story house that
responds to geometric and organizational cues given by the surrounding
landscape: specifically, the house acts as a source for the pond that it hovers over.

This formal investigation led to an immense spatial variety,
typically only expected in larger, more expansive projects. The open floor
plan is manipulated to align its flow with the many variegated site
opportunities that occur in section. Starting with the open entry on the
lower level, the floor plan bends and opens up to the pond by means of a
large operable glass wall that to allows the living space to spill out onto
the banks. Bending back around and up the stairs to the second level the
movement carries out to the second level deck which provides views of the
Teton Mountain Range beyond, a view only afforded from this elevated perch.
Two generous bedrooms also occupy the upper level, both having window
elements that protrude out to bend and frame the views towards the mountains as well.
