W-House

Project Type : Residential

Location : Wilson, WY

Project Size : 5,000 sf

Date :  2004

The design of the W House uses formal maneuvers to work in unison with the site’s dynamic environmental context to create a residence that performs as a integrated landscape. Nestled in a u-shaped, sloped terrain, as the house cascades into the existing gully, each surface acts as a moving datum, interacting to create a new internal landscape that challenges the relationship between the geometry of the site and the surface of the building.

Building elements such as the roof plane and floor plan are shifted to optimize environmental and programmatic pressures. Issues of light, ventilation and circulation affect these shifts to create a dynamic interior space that is inherently linked to the movement of the sun and the land.
